To Make Stuff Up in order to Solve Problems is to be human!
Above we have 14 seconds that reveal a great deal of truth about human behavior in school. What do we do about these 2 kids? How do we respond? Is a response required? Those are the easy questions... digging deeper, we need to deal with this kid's answer. Is it wrong? I think it's correct. After all, Arabic numerical symbol for two plus Arabic numerical symbol for three DOES equal (kid's own) hand pictagram symbol for five, doesn't it? Unless we clearly set rules and parameters otherwise, then there's no problem here. I wonder what the average teacher would do here. And I wonder what an effective instructional leader would counsel.
Here a longer video of older humans solving a problem. In the end they get what they are after. But what are the things they did? How did they organize themselves? What did they create to solve the problem and achieve the goal?
